The consistency of the susceptibility to hydrogen peroxide of tubercle bacilli isolated from South Indian patients before treatment.

Isoniazid-sensitive strains of tubercle bacilli cultured from pairs of sputum specimens obtained pretreatment from 7 South Indian patients were exposed to 0.02 per cent hydrogen peroxide for 60 to 90 min., and the numbers of viable organisms were counted. The variation in the percentage of surviving organisms from patient to patient was greater than the variation from culture to culture obtained from the same patient. Thus, strains from different Indian patients have characteristic degrees of susceptibility to hydrogen peroxide.
