ICMR-NIRT observes 12th International Day of Yoga 2026

ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), Chennai, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga on 22nd June 2026 at the Atrium, Clinic Building, in line with the global celebrations of International Day of Yoga 2026. The event was organised under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", highlighting the significance of yoga in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being across all age groups.
The programme commenced with a prayer session, followed by a guided meditation session that enabled participants to experience mindfulness and inner calm. The gathering was formally welcomed during the welcome address, which emphasised the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for holistic health and healthy ageing.
A special expert talk was delivered by Senior Professor Avinasilingam of Vethathiri Maharishi Simplified Kundalini Yoga, World Community Service Centre (WCSC), Chetpet. The speaker elaborated on the principles of Simplified Kundalini Yoga and highlighted the role of yoga and meditation in maintaining overall health, stress reduction, and enhancing quality of life.
As part of the celebrations, members of the NIRT team and WCSC team presented a yoga demonstration showcasing various yogic practices and asanas that contribute to physical fitness, flexibility, and mental wellness. The demonstration received enthusiastic participation and appreciation from the audience.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, participants, organisers, and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the event. The celebration ended with the National Anthem.
The observance reaffirmed ICMR-NIRT's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and creating awareness on the benefits of yoga among its staff and stakeholders.
