Awareness Lecture on IBSC Mandates and BSL-III Laboratory Approval Requirements

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC) of the Institute, organised an awareness lecture on “Latest Updates on the Mandates of the IBSC, Considerations in the Application Process, and Certifications Required for BSL-III Laboratory Approval” on 18th September 2026.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. N. Saravanan, Chair, IBSC, who welcomed the Scientists, Technical Staff, Project Staff, and Research Scholars. The Director addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards of biosafety and adhering strictly to established biosafety guidelines by all personnel working in BSL-III and BSL-II laboratory facilities.
The awareness lecture was delivered by Dr. R.P. Aravind Babu, Assistant Professor, College of Animal Husbandry and Food Technology (CAHS), and Assistant Professor and Scientist, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Chennai. During the lecture, Dr. Aravind Babu provided an overview of the latest IBSC mandates and discussed key considerations in the application process, along with the certifications and regulatory requirements for obtaining BSL-III laboratory approval.
The session provided an opportunity for Scientists, Technical Staff, Project Staff, and Research Scholars to gain a better understanding of the regulatory and procedural aspects of institutional biosafety. The lecture was followed by an interactive session, during which participants sought clarifications on various aspects of IBSC requirements and the BSL-III laboratory approval process.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. N. Sudhakar, Member Secretary, IBSC, ICMR-NIRT.
