Brainstorming Workshop on Advancing Integrative TB Research through Siddha (AYUSH) System-Based Approaches

June 22, 2026 - June 23, 2026

A two-day brainstorming workshop on “Advancing Integrative TB Research through Siddha (AYUSH) System-Based Approaches” was organized by ICMR–National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), Chennai, in collaboration with the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), Ministry of AYUSH, and ICMR–National Institute of Traditional Medicine (ICMR-NITM), Belagavi, on 22nd – 23rd June 2026.

The workshop aimed to identify and prioritize Siddha (AYUSH) formulations, products, and therapeutic approaches for scientific evaluation and their potential integration into tuberculosis (TB) prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation strategies. The initiative sought to foster evidence-based integrative research and explore opportunities for strengthening TB care through traditional medicine systems.

The workshop was graced by Dr. Srinath Satyanarayana, Director, ICMR-NIRT, Chennai; Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General, CCRS Headquarters, Chennai; and Dr. Subarna Roy, Director, ICMR-NITM, Belagavi, along with scientists, researchers, and experts from the participating institutions.

During the deliberations, participants discussed emerging opportunities in integrative TB research, identified priority research areas, and explored collaborative pathways for evaluating Siddha-based interventions through rigorous scientific methodologies. The discussions focused on developing a roadmap for translational research that could contribute to improving TB prevention, treatment outcomes, and post-treatment rehabilitation.

The workshop facilitated meaningful interactions among experts from biomedical and traditional medicine disciplines, enabling the exchange of knowledge and the development of a shared vision for future collaborative research initiatives. The deliberations culminated in the identification of key research priorities and recommendations for advancing evidence-based integration of Siddha approaches into TB research.

The workshop was efficiently coordinated by the Department of Social and Behavioral Research, ICMR-NIRT, whose dedicated efforts contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
