ICMR-NIRT Felicitated for Nikshay Mitra Support in Tiruvallur District

The National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Tiruvallur District, organized a review and felicitation event for Nikshay Mitra donors on 20th August 2026. The event was organized by Dr. P. Sangeetha, Deputy Director of Medical Services (TB), Tiruvallur, and was attended by Dr. Akhilesh Srivastava, National Consultant, Central TB Division, MoHFW, and Mr. Shahbaz Ijaz, State Programme Officer, PMTBMBA, Tamil Nadu.
During the event, the contributions of Nikshay Mitra donors in Tiruvallur District, including ICMR-NIRT, Chennai, Sacred Heart Community (SSHJ), Panchayat representatives and other donors, were recognized and appreciated by NTEP, Tiruvallur, and representatives of the Central TB Division. Nutritional kits were distributed to TB patients in need, followed by an interaction with beneficiaries and patient champions. The importance of the TB Mukt App in facilitating access to nutritional and other support through Nikshay Mitra donors was also highlighted.
Participants shared suggestions and recommendations for further strengthening and scaling up Nikshay Mitra activities in the district. Dr. N. Karikalan, Scientist D, and Mrs. A. Dhanalakshmi, Technical Officer, ICMR-NIRT, represented the Institute at the event. The felicitation acknowledged ICMR-NIRT’s continued support towards the nutritional well-being of TB patients and its contribution to the collective efforts towards achieving a TB-free India.
