International Masterclass on Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis of Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies Successfully Concludes at ICMR-NIRT
Aug. 5, 2026 - Aug. 7, 2026
The Technical Resource Centre (TRC), ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), Chennai, with support from the Department of Health Research, Government of India, successfully conducted an International Masterclass on Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis of Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies from 5–7 August 2026 at ICMR-NIRT, Chennai.
The three-day masterclass brought together researchers and faculty from across India for intensive training in the methodology and application of diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) evidence synthesis.
The programme covered the full process of conducting DTA systematic reviews, including formulating review questions and eligibility criteria, understanding study designs and reference standards, assessing sources of bias and variability, and conducting methodological quality assessments using QUADAS-3.
A major component of the masterclass was hands-on training in statistical analysis and interpretation. Participants worked with R, and RevMan for meta-analysis of a single diagnostic test, test comparisons, investigation of heterogeneity and meta-regression.
The programme also covered interpreting and presenting review findings and translating diagnostic accuracy evidence into practice recommendations. The masterclass featured an internationally recognised faculty from the University of Birmingham, including Prof Yemisi Takwoingi, Dr Jacqueline Dinnes, and Dr Clare Davenport, alongside the ICMR-NIRT faculty. Their expertise spans diagnostic test evaluation, evidence synthesis, systematic review methodology and methodological research.
The programme was designed for researchers and faculty with prior experience in systematic reviews, with an emphasis on strengthening advanced methodological skills and developing capacity for high-quality diagnostic evidence synthesis in India.
The successful completion of the masterclass represents an important step towards strengthening national capacity in diagnostic test accuracy research and evidence synthesis, supporting the generation and use of robust evidence for clinical practice, guidelines and health policy.
The TRC, ICMR-NIRT acknowledges the valuable contributions of the faculty, participants and organising team in making the masterclass a successful and enriching learning experience.
