Nutritional Support Drive for TB Patients Launched Under NTEP

ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (ICMR-NIRT), Chennai, in partnership with United Way of Chennai, launched a Nikshay Mitra initiative under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) at Government Medical College & Hospital, Thiruvallur, on 26th May, 2026.
Under the initiative, nutritional support for six months will be provided to 50 TB patients undergoing treatment in Velliyur, Katchur, Perambakkam, and Periyapalayam. The programme is being implemented under the supervision of Dr. P. Sangeetha, District TB Officer (NTEP), and Dr. N. Karikalan, Scientist D and Head, Department of Social and Behavioural Research, ICMR-NIRT.
The event also featured a Villu Pattu performance to raise awareness about TB prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment adherence. Nutritional supplements and educational pamphlets were distributed to patients and caregivers.
